Hey, I'm Taryn!

Consider this list your cheat sheet for the best coffee walks in Marin

Some of my favorite mornings in Marin are the simple ones.  A fresh iced coffee in hand, the stroller rolling, nowhere we have to be. It’s become my go-to for catching up with mom friends or for slow weekend mornings with my family.

You’d think Marin would have this figured out, but finding a great coffee shop that’s actually near a good walking path is surprisingly tricky. The best views are often nowhere near a coffee shop, and vice versa. So I decided to make a list!

All of these paths are ones that I’ve walked myself, and this list was not generated from AI! It was generated by me, a toddler mom in Marin county who absolutely loves a good coffee walk. I don’t like walking anywhere with my daughter that isn’t super pedestrian friendly, and I like a place that has easy parking! The key to a perfect coffee walk is not fearing getting run over, or circling the area for parking.

Peet’s Coffee + Harbor Cove Way in Tiburon

I know Tiburon isn’t necessarily known for their coffee shops, but they are certainly known for their gorgeous views! Grab your coffee from Peet’s across from Nugget Market and take the crosswalk to Greenwood Bay Dr. There’s a beautiful (and stroller-friendly) bayfront path that continues around Harbor Cove Way. You get views of the Bay and the San Francisco skyline without the crowds you see at Blackie’s Pasture.

Another gorgeous option in Tiburon is Cafe Acri + a walk along Shoreline Park. However, parking is either paid or extremely limited. Or both! It’s a beautiful area but the parking situation makes me strongly prefer Harbor Cove.

Flour Craft (The Lumber Yard) + Downtown Mill Valley

Flour Craft is a gluten-free bakery that somehow makes you forget it’s gluten-free. The pastries are that good. Pick up a coffee and something to eat, then wander through the neighborhood streets of downtown Mill Valley. The tree-lined streets and sweet cottage homes make for a really lovely slow morning.

Note: you could also try The Depot or Equator Coffee and then walk to Old Mill Park and the library and playground. I’ve done this walk before too, but it’s a little more congested.

The Kitchen + Hamilton Wetlands in Novato

The Kitchen is a hidden gem tucked in the Hamilton neighborhood, with great coffee and a cozy vibe. There are some entrances in the parking lot to the Hamilton Wetlands pathways where you can watch birds, take in the wide open sky, and feel like you have the whole place to yourself. Note: The Kitchen is open Monday through Friday only, so plan accordingly.

Note: you could also try Marin Coffee Roasters on Ignacio, and then walk along Ignacio. It’s a well kept walking path with beautiful flowers, but with the cars whizzing by you on Ignacio, it’s not as relaxing to me.

Victoria Bakery (or Peet’s) + Niven Park in Corte Madera

Victoria Bakery is a sweet little neighborhood gem in Bon Air with delicious pastries and coffee. It pairs perfectly with a walk along the Corte Madera Creek pathway or through Niven Park. It’s flat, beautiful, and stroller-friendly if you’ve got little ones in tow. There’s also a beautiful new playground called Alex’s Playground and Discovery Garden’s.

This one’s a little clunky, but I recommend parking near Alex’s Playground/Niven Park first, walking over to Bon Air to get coffee, and then continuing your walk back through Niven Park area. You can’t park in Bon Air if you’re leaving, and it’s a really crowded and stressful parking lot.

Equator Coffee (or Emporio Rulli) + Doliver Park in Larkspur

Larkspur has the cutest little downtown ever. Equator is a Marin staple and Emporio Rulli is one of my favorite cozy cafe spots. From there, the neighborhood streets and Doliver Park are perfect for a leisurely stroll.

Rustic Bakery (or Starbucks) + Bayfront Path by Larkspur Landing/Marin Country Mart

Rustic Bakery at the Marin Country Mart is a go-to! Walk off your coffee along the bayfront path that runs across from the Mart, or continue over to Remillard Park for waterfront views and a peaceful stretch of trail. There’s a walking bridge to the Ferry Terminal and walking path right by Rustic.

Andy’s Local Market + Loch Lomond Marina in San Rafael

Andy’s is a neighborhood market with a great coffee counter and a lot of local charm. The Loch Lomond Marina is just behind it and is one of those spots that San Rafael locals know and love. It’s quiet, scenic, and not overcrowded. 10/10 coffee walk spot! There are adirondack chairs in the back, too.

Sausalito Bakery and Cafe + the Sausalito Boardwalk

This one is probably the most obvious one for tourists, but I hesitate to do it for locals because of the parking situation and because of how crowded it is. I think the best option is to do paid parking in the ferry lot.

You could also hit the deli counter at Golden Gate Market and find street parking on that end! In general, this is a fun option if you have an out-of-towner visiting, but it’s pretty crowded for an everyday coffee walk.

Last one I debated adding to the list…

Starbucks in Target + San Francisco Bay Trail in San Rafael

Call me crazy, but there’s a bay trail and walking path that you can enter from the Target parking lot in San Rafael. They have a Starbucks inside, so technically you can make this a coffee walk!

Going to Target doesn’t exactly scratch the itch of going for a nature walk, but the walking path is surprisingly beautiful for being in their parking lot! I remember when I first moved to Marin and went to run a few errands, I thought “wow, even the views from their Target parking lots are spectacular.”

Let me know if you have any others to add to the list!

She was so helpful in preparing us for the day and was amazing at keeping us relaxed at the shoot. Day of, she helped us find the best poses and enthusiastically incorporated our photo ideas. Though it felt like our son cried the entire time, she captured his best moments, and the final photos were precious :) Looking forward to working with her again!

Oh my goodness! We absolutely LOVE all the pictures you took! I feel like this gallery really captures us so well. And I can’t believe you managed to shoot all those smiles and funny faces of our son! He was playing super hard to get ;) You have a gift! I am so, so pleased with how they turned out, and how the actual photo shoot experience was. We had such a fun time. Thank you a million! You were the perfect person to capture these moments! So grateful for your talents and lovely personality."

Taryn is such a joy to work with! She is so warm and easy going, it's very easy to feel comfortable around her. My husband hates taking photos but Taryn makes it so easy and carefree! She has a great eye for detail and can pick out photo spots that I would never think of. She is also so great with babies. She somehow made my 8 month old smile in nearly every shot. I highly recommend Taryn for family portraits, newborn shoots or anything you might need."

“It’s very easy to feel comfortable around her...

My fiancé and I were lucky enough to have Taryn take our engagement photos, and everything about the experience was truly incredible. In the past, my fiancé and I had always felt a bit ‘awkward’ while posing together, but Taryn had a way of making us feel SO comfortable, at ease, natural, and confident as she took our photos. She hyped us up throughout the shoot - and it showed in the results. Not only did she capture our genuine smiles and laughs, but she *created* those smiles and laughs through her warmth and infectious excitement.

It’s evident how thoughtful Taryn is in capturing beautiful moments for her clients, and she goes above and beyond to do so. When we got the photos back, I immediately was brought to tears. Not only was I in awe of how stunning they were, but seeing the way my fiancé looked at me made me reflect on how thrilled I am to marry him (a heartwarming reminder that’s easy for a bride to forget during the wedding planning phase).  These images are more than just “engagement photos”, but these are sweet, special memories that will be used at our upcoming wedding, forever framed in our home, and shared with our future grandkids one day.

All I can say is wow!! You are a miracle worker. The photos are beautiful and I can’t believe the turn around time. Not only are you incredibly talented, but you made the process fun. My kids had the best time!! You have clients for as long as you stay in California!!! The kids will be so thrilled when they see the photos. Thank you so much."

...and I can’t tell you how many compliments we’ve been getting on the pictures. Not only did Taryn make us feel so good about ourselves, but she knew exactly how to pose us and get the best shots. And I honestly can’t believe how much fun we had during the session. It’s going to be so hard to choose just one photo for our ‘Save the Dates.’ We’re obsessed with all of them!”
