As a toddler mom, I know that dining out with little ones isn’t always easy—but we’ve been loving spots where our daughter can explore and play before or after eating. Since many of my clients are also families with young kids, I wanted to share a few family-friendly restaurants in Marin that offer outdoor spaces perfect for a little post-meal adventure. It may not be a long, leisurely dinner, but hey—it’s one less meal to prep, cook, and clean up!
Located in the Mill Valley Lumber Yard, Watershed offers beautiful outdoor seating and elevated comfort food in a super family-welcoming setting. The space is stroller-friendly and walkable, with a little stream nearby and lots of nooks for curious toddlers to explore before or after your meal. The food is delicious, and my husband and I like to take turns sitting at the table, and letting our daughter explore.
Why we love it: Great location, sophisticated but family-accessible, and a wonderful option for special occasions or weekend brunch.
A Marin classic that kids and adults both love, Gott’s is known for its burgers, fries, shakes, and casual vibe. The Bon Air location in Greenbrae is especially family-friendly with outdoor picnic tables and a small playground area right next to the dining patio—perfect for letting little ones play while waiting for food.
Why we love it: Laid-back, super kid-friendly, and easy parking. The milkshakes are a hit for all ages.
Located in charming downtown Larkspur, Perry’s offers classic American fare in a relaxed but polished setting. Think burgers, salads, and a great kids’ menu. Even better—there’s a playground (Dolliver Park) just across the street, making it the perfect spot for an early dinner after a fun play session.
Why we love it: Walkable downtown location, great for brunch or dinner, and close to an awesome playground.
This open-air beer garden near Tam Junction is relaxed, rustic, and super kid-friendly. Order a wood-fired pizza, grab a picnic table, and let the kids explore the space freely. It’s ideal for weekend hangouts with friends or an early family dinner with zero pressure.
Why we love it: Open layout, plenty of space for wiggly kids, and really good pizza.
This Novato favorite is fresh, casual, and ideal for families. The salads and sandwiches are hearty and delicious, and there are plenty of kid-friendly options, too. What sets this location apart is its outdoor play area for kids and a small stage that often features live music on weekends, turning a simple lunch or dinner into a fun family outing.
Why we love it: Healthy options, kid entertainment built in, and a festive vibe—especially on weekends.
This Greek-inspired casual eatery is great for families looking for something flavorful and fresh. Located inside Marin Country Mart, you can dine outside and then walk over to the nearby turtle pond, which is always a hit with little ones. There’s also plenty of space to wander, and events like music and farmers markets on weekends.
Why we love it: Delicious Mediterranean food, relaxed outdoor seating, and built-in kid entertainment nearby.
Right off the Mill Valley-Sausalito bike path, Hook Fish is a laid-back seafood spot with outdoor picnic tables and a casual menu that works for everyone. Grab fish tacos, poke bowls, or a grilled cheese for the kids and enjoy the relaxed, coastal vibes.
Why we love it: Order-at-the-counter ease, great for post-adventure meals, and plenty of space to spread out.
HopMonk in Novato is an awesome choice for families looking to enjoy a relaxed meal out. Their spacious beer garden features a great lawn play area, giving kids room to run and play while parents can unwind nearby. They also often have live music, and their kid-friendly menu has all the faves.
Why we love it: Live music, chill atmosphere, running space and good food and drinks!
Bar Bocce is a great spot for families thanks to its cozy bayside beach, where kids can play in the sand just steps from the outdoor dining area. The only thing I’d caution is that you should go early in the evening before it fills up with more of a bar crowd! In the early evening or afternoon, it’s an awesome place to sit with little ones and look out at the beach.
Why we love it: Beachside meal, great food and drinks, walking distance to downtown Sausalito.
For a laid-back and family-friendly outing, grab takeout pizza from Creekside in San Anselmo and head just around the corner to Creekside Park. With plenty of picnic tables and open space, it’s an awesome place to grab a casual meal outdoors. It’s especially fun during the “Live on the Avenue” weekend street fests.
Why we love it: Lots of room to spread out and enjoy nature!
Tucked along the Mill Valley waterfront, Lighthouse Bar & Grill offers a relaxed, scenic setting with a menu that’s approachable for both adults and kids. The big draw for families? A large outdoor patio just steps from a grassy area and path where kids can safely stretch their legs while you enjoy a peaceful bite. The casual vibe, friendly service, and spacious layout make it an easy choice for parents.
Why we love it: Beautiful views, space for kids to roam, and a laid-back atmosphere that welcomes families. Note: you don’t have to be a member of the country club to enjoy a meal there!
12. Brewsters Beer Garden (Petaluma — just north of Novato!)
While I know this one isn’t actually in Marin, I thought it was too good to skip. Located just 15-25 minutes outside of Marin, Brewsters combines delicious comfort food with a huge outdoor beer garden that’s ideal for families. There’s tons of space for kids to move around, plus occasional live music and a kid’s menu that goes beyond the basics. Parents can kick back with a local brew while little ones play—it’s a win-win for everyone.

She was so helpful in preparing us for the day and was amazing at keeping us relaxed at the shoot. Day of, she helped us find the best poses and enthusiastically incorporated our photo ideas. Though it felt like our son cried the entire time, she captured his best moments, and the final photos were precious :) Looking forward to working with her again!
"We worked with Taryn for newborn photos and couldn't have been happier with the decision.

I am so, so pleased with how they turned out, and how the actual photo shoot experience was. We had such a fun time. Thank you a million! You were the perfect person to capture these moments! So grateful for your talents and lovely personality."

Taryn is such a joy to work with! She is so warm and easy going, it's very easy to feel comfortable around her. My husband hates taking photos but Taryn makes it so easy and carefree! She has a great eye for detail and can pick out photo spots that I would never think of. She is also so great with babies. She somehow made my 8 month old smile in nearly every shot. I highly recommend Taryn for family portraits, newborn shoots or anything you might need."

My fiancé and I were lucky enough to have Taryn take our engagement photos, and everything about the experience was truly incredible. In the past, my fiancé and I had always felt a bit ‘awkward’ while posing together, but Taryn had a way of making us feel SO comfortable, at ease, natural, and confident as she took our photos. She hyped us up throughout the shoot - and it showed in the results. Not only did she capture our genuine smiles and laughs, but she *created* those smiles and laughs through her warmth and infectious excitement.
It’s evident how thoughtful Taryn is in capturing beautiful moments for her clients, and she goes above and beyond to do so. When we got the photos back, I immediately was brought to tears. Not only was I in awe of how stunning they were, but seeing the way my fiancé looked at me made me reflect on how thrilled I am to marry him (a heartwarming reminder that’s easy for a bride to forget during the wedding planning phase). These images are more than just “engagement photos”, but these are sweet, special memories that will be used at our upcoming wedding, forever framed in our home, and shared with our future grandkids one day.

All I can say is wow!! You are a miracle worker. The photos are beautiful and I can’t believe the turn around time. Not only are you incredibly talented, but you made the process fun. My kids had the best time!! You have clients for as long as you stay in California!!! The kids will be so thrilled when they see the photos. Thank you so much."

...and I can’t tell you how many compliments we’ve been getting on the pictures. Not only did Taryn make us feel so good about ourselves, but she knew exactly how to pose us and get the best shots. And I honestly can’t believe how much fun we had during the session. It’s going to be so hard to choose just one photo for our ‘Save the Dates.’ We’re obsessed with all of them!”
